Transcript

Seeing a lawyer is a lot like seeing a doctor. We have to get good information, so we know where to cut. We need to know where it hurts, so we know which operation to do and to make sure that we get that good information you have attorney-client privilege with your lawyer.

Everything you talk about with your attorney is confidential between you and your attorney, and that's so you can feel free to share maybe some painful information. It can be difficult, so you need to be comfortable with the attorney that you talk to, and you need to be ready to tell him exactly what you know and remember.

Remember, the burden is always on the state to prove the case against you but a good place to start is with your side of it. So, make sure that you tell your attorney what you know about your case so that they can make a plan going forward that best suits your defense.

Further Thoughts

Attorney-client privilege protects information that a client shares confidentially with an attorney. So, it allows a client to be honest with their lawyer about their case and give all the information. A lawyer is always working in the best interest of their client, so the more information a client can provide, the better their representation will be. If a client provides false or misleading information to their attorney, it can lead to the attorney building a weak case. It is always in the best interest of the client to give their attorney the full truth regarding their situation.
