Video Series: Spring Break Tips - Part 2: Fake IDs

In this series, we ride along with Florida Attorney Bruce Denson as he gives brief explanations on Florida Law and how to stay out of legal trouble during spring break.

Transcript

Alright, let's talk about fake IDs in Florida. It's Spring Break coming up and there'll be a lot of college kids coming down and fake IDs. In Florida, you could be charged with a felony. The cops have an option kind of depending on how you're using and created the ID about whether to charge you with a felony or charge you with a misdemeanor. So, one: don't use a fake ID. Number two: If you get caught, be nice to the police officer. Don't admit anything. Take the ticket, take the arrest, and then consult a criminal defense attorney.

Further Thoughts

Fake IDs can lead to very serious charges in the state of Florida. As a third-degree felony, this could include up to $5,000 in fines and up to 5 years in prison. Getting caught with a fake ID simply isn't worth the risk and getting caught creating them is even worse. The safest legal choice you can make is to abstain from the use of alcohol or attending 18+ events until you are old enough to do so legally.
