10-20-Life Laws

Under Florida's 10-20-Life law, if a gun is used in the commission of a crime, the felon using it faces 10 years in prison if convicted. If the gun was fired, mandatory prison time increases to 20 years. If you have been convicted of a felony in the past and are caught in possession of a gun - even if it was not used in the commission of a crime - you could be sentenced to prison time.

The 10-20-Life law confuses many people in Florida. Yes, possessing and using a gun in the commission of a crime is a serious offense, but there are things an attorney can do to challenge the allegations. It pays to get a defense attorney involved early. In some cases, early intervention by an experienced criminal defense lawyer can prevent weapons charges from ever being filed.

At The Denson Firm, we have years of experience representing people facing weapons charges. We understand Florida firearms laws and can negotiate skillfully with prosecutors in your defense.

Was very professional with my case of assault with a deadly weapon and helped me with all aspects of my case and kept me well informed during the whole process. I hired Mr Denson because of a close friend of mine who recommended him highly and was not disappointed with his abilities as a top lawyer in the Bay Area. He collected the information and worked with the State Attorney to lesson my charges and made sure I did not receive jail time. The out come of my charges resulted in a fine with no jail time. As a result of his hard work on my case I was able to keep my job and was able to go back to my life as I knew it but a little wiser and more aware of what I had learned from all of this. I would like to thank Mr. Denson again for all his help and hard work on my case and would recommend him highly to anyone who needs a good lawyer that cares about his clients.
