In Cruisin' For A Bruce-in, we ride along with Florida Attorney Bruce Denson as he gives brief explanations on Florida Law and what to do in common legal situations.
Don't hire a lawyer based on price. The old saying "You get what you pay for" is especially true for lawyers. A bargain lawyer is not always a bargain in the long run.
So, you don't want to rush into the conversation about attorney costs and fees with the lawyer. Sit down first with them, talk to them, make sure the fit is right for you and your case. Once you've established that you think this is the right lawyer for you, then go ahead and talk about fees. It should be easy to talk to the attorney about fees.
Attorneys who do criminal offense usually charge a flat fee, that way, you know going into the case exactly what you're paying. We don't bill on an hourly basis. Usually, we charge a fee that doesn't include the trial fee because most cases are resolved without trial, but if your case heads to trial, then we can make that decision later. But don't be afraid to have that conversation about fees with your lawyer at that first meeting and make sure it's easy and understood.
Choosing the right lawyer is more important than the cost. While you want to take a lawyers fees into consideration, not all lawyers are equal and you may find that the less expensive lawyer isn't able to deliver on their promises. So, take the time to make sure your lawyer is the right fit for you before worrying about the price.
